When I was a child I simply loved spending time in the kitchen with my grandmother.
Whether it was preparing dinner or baking some luscious creation I didn’t want to be anywhere else.
It was no surprise that when I finished high school I wanted to attend to The Culinary Institute to go into some sort of restaurant work. During my time there I realized that my true passion was baking and I decided to open up a small bake shop of my own once I graduated. That was a few years ago and now I specialize in wedding cakes and I try to make them as unique as the couple themselves. As you can imagine some of them come up with some crazy ideas and I tried to make them happy. The biggest challenge in creating these works of art is transporting them to the venue where the couple will be having their reception. Not only do I have to have a vehicle that can house them but I also need to make sure that the temperature is just perfect both in the vehicle and at the venue. Some of these cakes are very intricate and have thousands of handmade flowers made of frosting and even the slightest change in temperature can cause them to melt. During the winter it is a bit easier because I don’t have to worry about refrigeration but on hot summer days, it can be a big problem. We always make sure to have the HVAC system on the van service to because we can’t afford to travel across town and have the cakes ruined. I also make sure to check with the venue ahead of time to make sure they either have a large enough cooler for me to put the cake in or that they have sufficient climate control to keep it safe.
