Living our best life

Last week, my spouse saw on cable where our state is talking about raising the taxes on fuel.  Both of us are already a single of the states that has the highest fuel prices in the entire US.  It is estimated that our fuel taxes could go up another $ .30 to $ .50 per gallon. With fuel prices rising that much, our fuel for the gas furnace will also rise immensely.  Being retired, it is all both of us can do to be able to pay for the fuel for the gas furnace, now. Our energy bills will be rising as will our food prices. It seems very crazy that the price of fuel can’t be the same from state to state.  The worse space of all of this is that my spouse is now considering moving. He wants to move to a state where both of us can afford to live. He doesn’t want to continue to pay the excessive fuel cost for heating. He says if both of us moved south then I wouldn’t need to worry about heating.  Both of us could find a new beach house in the mountains where both of us would be able to get by with a window air conditioner for the summer time and a couple electric space gas furnaces for the winter. I jokingly told him that both of us could consistently pay rent to our child who recently bought an abandoned university.  Both of us could pay him rent, he would supply all of the heating and air conditioner. He may even be great enough to give us a single of the apartments that has a mini-split Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit. He was seriously considering the idea.
