How heating is treated up north

When I lived up north, heating was the priority.

The cold season could start as early as Halloween and linger well past Easter.

It was necessary to have heating equipment ready early and be prepared to stay running basically all year. The cold in the north is brutal too. It can get down to the negative twenties with a severe windchill. The snow comes in feet rather than inches. It is pretty crazy when you live there. I had a whole year at college that I wore a wool coat and snow boots. It wasn’t a fun time. My home had three heating systems. I had a gas fireplace in the living room that controlled that space and the office. The kitchen had a ductless mini split that never got to use the air conditioner function. Upstairs had an oil heater that went basically all year. It was nice having different fuels for different heaters. That way if the power went out, I wasn’t totally without any heat. I also invested in an electric car to get my car heating system up and running early. Now that I live down south, heating is just not stressed. I do own a heating system, just one. It hardly ever runs though. Most of the time the heater is simply tagged in for those colder nights. I am not as freaked out when the heater makes a noise or threatens to quit on me too. I know I could get by with a space heater or just wait the extra time it takes a HVAC tech to make the heater repair.
