All of the plumbing needed to be replaced

My son and his girlfriend don’t make the best decisions.

Sometimes they act quickly before thinking about the outcome.

A couple of months ago, my son decided to sign a lease on a property that was rent to own. He didn’t give me a chance to look at the lease before signing. He thought it was going to be easy to buy a house. He gave the owner $1,000 to secure the property and half of his rent is supposed to go towards the purchase price of the house. Even though my son is technically renting, the homeowner is not responsible for paying any of the fees for repairs or maintenance. When the kids had a leak in the bathroom, I told my son to call a plumber. He didn’t have a lot of money, so I offered to pay for the plumber. I didn’t think it would be more than a couple of hundred dollars for the repair. When the plumber arrived, he told my son and his girlfriend that all of the plumbing under the house needed to be replaced. The plumbing was no longer up to city code. The owner of the house knew about the plumbing issues, but he failed to disclose the information to my son and his girlfriend. Unfortunately, the kids had already signed an agreement and they didn’t have any way to back out of the lease. My son ended up losing the money that he paid to secure the property and he had to move out of the house and find a different place to live. The plumbing company would not fix the leak unless all of the pipes were replaced.
