This whole area used to be a swamp, but then the state set up a college here, and the college opened up a medical school, and the medical school opened up a hospital.
Forty years later the town, the college, and the hospital are all the biggest in eight counties.
This town is a hub for all local commerce and education, and every medical establishment within 50 miles is connected to the university. I never went to college, but I work here and make a great living, and hope to send my kids here one day. A place this big is like its own city, so it maintains a very large HVAC department to handle all the climate control issues that happen like clockwork. The college is very nice, and only uses quality HVAC systems, but like I said, the place is huge. If you have a few thousand different heating and cooling systems in use, you will get something breaking down every day, it’s just the law of averages. For the most part I work in the housing department, the small HVAC systems they use the dorm rooms and the study halls. There is a whole other crew that specializes in the industrial sized HVAC systems they use in lecture halls, mess halls, and the bigger gathering areas. It may not be the most glamorous job in the world, but it’s a good job, and because of how hot and humid it is almost all year round, everyone knows the HVAC crew is very important. AC is important when you are trying to study, I guess.
