Thank God for our smart thermostat

The kids and I have been looking forward to this hiking trip for some time now.

We kept having to postpone it for one reason or another.

But Saturday looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. There was not a cloud in the sky when we put on our boots, packed up the truck, and headed out towards the trail. The first 2 hours of hiking went wonderfully. It was such a pretty day. Then the wind picked up and the clouds started appearing. I checked my weather app and it now showed rain coming soon. We headed back toward the truck but we only made it half way back before the rain started pouring down. We walked the last hour back in torrential rain. We were all soaking wet and freezing cold by the time we climbed into the truck. I turned on the heater and headed home. It was along drive home and we were all miserable. While stopping for gas, I remembered that we had left the air conditioner on at home too. Thankfully I have a smart thermostat and that my phone still worked. I was able to use my phone app to change our smart HVAC system from cool to heat. By the time we got home the house was nice and warm and the heater was blasting away. We took turns taking hot showers and then we all fell asleep in our nice warm beds. I swear, I will never go hiking again without at least packing rain ponchos for everyone. I have never been so cold in all of my life.
