New housing opportunity comes with non traditional approach

I wonder what it much have been like when owning a home was fairly standard.

Even when I was a kid, there was the idea that if you got and education and a decent job, homeownership was a given.

That certainly didn’t turn out to be the case for me. I suppose the huge housing crash 10 years ago had a lot to do with it. However, I had the bad timing to be entering the workforce at that time. So, I’ve been dealing apartments and bad HVAC ever since. Finally, it just got to be a bit too much. My friends and I decided that if we were ever going to own a home and build some equity, it would have to be a collective effort. So that’s exactly what we did. We chose to pool our resources to buy a home. The house we bought was an older 3 story home which suited us perfectly. However, we had to figure out the HVAC along with a few other details. Having three separate living spaces, we wanted to have independent HVAC control. We considered zone control HVAC. However, the existing HVAC system was just not really good enough for that and we decided to keep that just for the common areas. But we found our solution in the ductless HVAC units. This way, each living space could be independently HVAC maintained. Plus, we could also track the energy use separately as well. It was yet another creative solution to our collective living situation.
