My sister was a great handyman, but a lousy HVAC technician.

I also realized that although I was a year younger, I knew almost as much as she did

Ever since my sister was a little girl, she was trying to repair things. At first, it was just her dollhouse that she worked on. If the leg fell off of one of the dolls beds, she would put it back on. Later on, I saw her beginning to tinker with small things around the house. She would replace the door knob, or help dad change the oil in the car. As she got older, she basically took over all car repairs, and any type of repair in the house. It didn’t surprise me any when she decided to go to HVAC technical school. I thought it was going to be a good chance for her to do something she really enjoyed. I was shocked when after only two months in school, she decided to quit. She told me that although she made a great handyman at home, she felt she was going to be a lousy HVAC technician. She couldn’t grasp the terms they were talking about, and it scared her. She hadn’t technically quit classes through the school, so I started tutoring her. We went over her lessons every night, and I realized that my sister learned through doing things and not by being shown. When she graduated from HVAC technical school and received her certification, I was very proud of her. I also realized that although I was a year younger, I knew almost as much as she did. Within six months after she started working for the local HVAC company, I went to school to become an HVAC technician. Who knows; maybe someday she and I will be co-owners of an HVAC company.
