For three years, my husband and I had been trying to figure out what kind of HVAC system we wanted for our house.
Neither of us considered a new central HVAC system, because we didn’t want to put out the cost for ductwork.
Not having ductwork in our house was a big contributor to our thoughts on either installing a new boiler in the house, or purchasing ductless HVAC. We looked at the new mini split HVAC system, and we knew it was going to be more efficient than central HVAC. It would be just as efficient as the boiler system. The big difference was that with the boiler system, we would still rely on window air conditioning units to cool the house. This was both inconvenient, and another cost every couple of years. The mini split ductless HVAC system gave us both heating and air conditioning all in one unit. It seemed like it would be the perfect solution for all of our heating and air conditioning needs. We were told we needed little to no service on the mini split ductless HVAC system until it was installed. Six months later, we had mold coming out of the air vents and we didn’t know what we were doing wrong. We called the HVAC company and were told the HVAC system had to be cleaned periodically, and we should have it done by an HVAC technician. I wished someone had told us this earlier. We would have known what to expect and not be so disappointed in our new HVAC system.
