My neighbor's HVAC condenser kept getting louder until it suddenly quit working one day

I asked my neighbor about the HVAC repairs the following day and he told me that the condenser had a contaminant in the refrigerant line

I’m usually pretty flexible and patient with noise in our neighborhood. There are folks in their early 20s at the end of the street and sometimes they play loud music on Friday and Saturday nights. Unless it actually disrupts my sleep, I have no intention of ever reporting them to the police for a noise complaint. Thankfully, I haven’t needed to either. I’m more frustrated by hearing lawn mowers at 7 in the morning than I am about loud music at 10 or 11pm. Lately I have been hearing a lot of loud noises coming from my neighbor’s house, and at first I thought it was a laundry appliance in his garage. I could hear what sounded like scratching metal and I assumed it was an old washing machine spinning out with a load of clothing inside. It started happening daily and I was hearing it at random times. When I saw an HVAC technician’s truck in my neighbor’s driveway, I immediately understood what was going on. The sound was the neighbor’s HVAC condenser all along. It was falling apart and had to be replaced altogether. I saw an HVAC truck at his house for most of the afternoon hours before the technician was finished with his work. I asked my neighbor about the HVAC repairs the following day and he told me that the condenser had a contaminant in the refrigerant line. Since this could have only happened with his recent HVAC system installation, his HVAC company was liable for making the necessary repairs. It was a frustrating day, but at least his air conditioner is working again.
