It was ninety-five degrees and he wanted to go fishing.

Last week, my boyfriend called and asked me to go fishing with him.

I hadn’t yet been outside, and I loved fishing, so I agreed to go.

When he showed up, he left the car running, which should have been a clue to how hot it was outside. I was going to turn the temperature up on the thermostat so I could save some money on air conditioning, but something told me not to. When I stepped outside, I almost walked back inside. It was already ninety-five degrees and I didn’t want to be out in a metal boat with the sun shining off the water. I was sure I was going to have a good time, but I was also sure I was going to end up with a horrible sunburn. I went back inside to get my sunscreen, and almost didn’t go back out. I looked at my boyfriend and asked if he was sure about going fishing when it was so hot outside. He grimaced and fished his keys out of his pocket. He shut the car off and asked what else I had in mind. I had a built-in pool in the apartment building, and we wouldn’t need to go outside if we wanted to use the inside pool. We packed a picnic lunch and headed to the inside pool. The water was warm, but the air conditioning felt so good that I was glad we didn’t go fishing. I much preferred air conditioning to being out in the heat. My boyfriend agreed with me, but he wanted to spend the day with me.
