I chose to help my son with his HVAC installation project so he didn’t hurt himself

I swear that I was going to have a massive anxiety attack when I was helping my son with his HVAC installation project. He was certain that he could install his own HVAC system and he said he was going to do this even if it killed him. I didn’t want to explain why our son was dead if this project did indeed end up killing him, so I decided to be there to help and to supervise. I wanted to make sure he didn’t do anything foolish. Well, he started being foolish first thing by trying to jump the gun and drill holes in the wall without measuring everything carefully first! I asked him if there were some kind of instructions and he showed me. They were pretty complicated it seemed, and then I asked if there were installation videos so we could follow along. Well, he didn’t even think to look at installation videos. We actually found an HVAC installation video of the same make and model that he had purchased. I was also glad that he ordered a DIY ductless mini split because it meant we didn’t have to charge the line sets with refrigerant. Also, we didn’t have to flare the lines and honestly, that was something I didn’t want to have to do. One thing I know, refrigerant poisoning is extremely life threatening, so I wanted to make sure he was not spilling any refrigerant whatsoever. The first hole he drilled into the wall was not good, he went through the wrong place and I had to stress again that he had to measure everything carefully. I helped him with this process and we got it. The electric part was also challenging, but we did that without getting fried to death. The installation isn’t half bad, and the HVAC system works great.
