How heating is treated up north

When I lived up north, heating was the priority. The cold season could start as early as Halloween and linger well past Easter. It was necessary to have heating device ready early and be prepared to stay running basically all year. The cold in the north is brutal too. It can get down to the negative twenties with a drastic windchill. The snow comes in feet rather than inches. It is pretty crazy when you live there. I had a whole year at college that I wore a wool coat and snow boots. It wasn’t a fun time. My home had three boilers. I had a gas fireplace in the study room that controlled that space and the office. The family room had a ductless mini split that never got to use the a/c function, however upstairs had an oil heating system that went basically all year. It was nice having odd fuels for odd heaters. That way if the power went out, I wasn’t totally without any heat. I also invested in an electric car to get my car boiler up and running early. Now that I live down south, heating is just not stressed. I do own a boiler, just one. It hardly ever runs though. Most of the time the heating system is simply tagged in for those colder afternoons. I am not as freaked out when the heating system makes a noise or threatens to quit on me too. I know I could get by with a space heating system or just wait the extra time it takes a Heating plus A/C tech to make the heating system repair.
