Had to make the rental ADA compliant

I own a rental home that usually is nothing but a great source of income.

I then got a new tenant that signed on for a two year lease. I figured no problem, got his money and the guy moved in. Right after I started getting calls about how my home is not accessible for the disabled. Turns out the guy is wheelchair bound and now requires me to make the house accessible for him. Since I can’t discriminate I need to make the rental home handicap accessible. I thankfully have found a general contractor that deals with ADA compliance. I need to make a front front and a back door ramp that is a certain grade. It can’t be too sharp of an angle. I also need bars installed in the shower and around the toilet. I am sure there are other things that fall under the umbrella of ADA compliant upgrades. Thankfully the commercial construction company I hired deals with this sort of issue all of the time. The contractors already have looked around the rental home and have assured me they can get it all done in two weeks. I am not happy about having to pay for all of these updates and a construction crew. However, I have looked around online. I think I can charge more rent now that I have an ADA compliant apartment. I hope my renter sticks with me for more than two years though. All this work was for him, he should enjoy it while it is brand new.
