Managing a group of people has been a single one of the more awesome experiences of my life. Don’t get me wrong, it can be a tough situation akin to herding a bunch of feral cats. But, when it works, it is honestly a thing of beauty. That is why I have kept with it for years. I have been offered a bunch of uncommon positions but, I have always enjoyed leading people in a subtle but effective way. Just the dynamics of actually working in extremely close quarters day after day is a true challenge. I believe that the group of us recently had a situation over the Heating and A/C machine setting in our office. The group of us work in a crucial open area with cubicles and workstations for all the people. The only walls we actually have are for the conference room. It’s just common sense that a large group of thirty people will have uncommon ideas of Heating and A/C machine comfort. There is only a single temperature control in the office and it tends to be controlled by a group who love to keep it far more warm than cool. This hasn’t entirely been a horrible situation until lately. The warm group got totally greedy and kept the temperature control setting especially high while in a terribly sizzling streak of weather. This became an immediate drawback and I recognized that I needed to do something because neither side was budging. I didn’t want things to end up getting out of control. So, I had the Heating and A/C machine people come in to install a ductless Heating and A/C machine on a single side of the office. Then, I proposed that all the people could arrange their work areas around the Heating and A/C machine setting preference. This has worked amazingly well. The group who prefers it warm are comfortable and there is now a much cooler zone in the office.
