Black mold can be deadly

I live in an area where the humidity is as high as the temperature.

I never realized, until I got my own apartment, that when you live near the beach, the humidity levels are even higher.

I moved into this great apartment that was near the beach and I was loving it until summer really arrived. It was nearing 100 degrees and I swear the air was as moist as it could get, without it raining. I was dressing for work and I happened to look up when I turned on the closet light. I noticed a smattering of small black dots on the ceiling. I thought it was odd, but then I noticed that it appeared to be mold. I called the landlord and told him about the black spots and I suspected it could be black mold. He asked me if I could be home for the day, or if I could give him permission to bring someone in and look at the mold. I told him to go on in and I told him where the mold was. That afternoon, the landlord called and told me that it was definitely black mold. He said he had a dehumidifier installed in the house and he had a team of people in the apartment building, remediating all mold from the building. I had a small dehumidifier in my closet. I had thought that the air conditioning would take care of the humidity, but I was wrong. Due to the closet being small and not left open, there wasn’t any airflow to deal with the mold. The dehumidifier would help with airflow and it would remove the excess moisture the air conditioning was unable to deal with.
