While there are so many things that I can’t stand about living in a big city, for some reason I have still continued living here for the past twenty years. While it’s true that there is always something fun to do and the energy of being in the city is something special, I think that the reason I am still here has to do with the people. When I first ended up moving here I was lucky enough to have met my neighbor Alex who was able to get situated in my new living area. As I got to know him better I came to find out that Alex was an HVAC repair tech for a company downtown. At the time I didn’t think anything of it other than he was a nice guy who I hoped would help me get to know the city a little better and maybe watch my dogs when I am out of town. One day while he was over watching a sports game with me and a few other friends he noticed that the air quality in my apartment was sub par. During the rest of the game instead of watching the teams play and enjoying himself he went ahead and did a full HVAC inspection and repair on my old and run down air conditioning unit. Not only did he get it up and running as if it was brand new, but he did it for free. Bonds with people like Alex is what makes a place truly feel like a home, and since I am already surrounded by great people here I don’t see any reason why I should leave soon.
