Now that my adolescents are adolescents, they suppose they understand everything there is to recognize about life, but if you question anything they do or try to tell them that they’re wrong, they shut down and right away stop listening… Then recently, my adolescents have been decreasing the temperature control settings because they “aren’t comfortable.” As their mother, I would understand if they were too hot or too chilly and needed to reasonably adjust the temperature, however that’s never the case; when my adolescents change the temperature, they alter it by a minimum of 5 degrees. 5 degrees doesn’t actually seem to be a lot; however, it is when you’re heating and cooling a large house, altering the temperature this much can cause a lot of stress on an actual heating and air conditioning system, causing it to run efficiently… My partner and I have tried talking to them about how it isn’t good to change the temperature love that, however they continue to do it, then both of us warned them that if they couldn’t stop, then there would be serious consequences, however that didn’t stop them, but this is when the two of us ordered a clear box to locale around the temperature control that could only be opened with a key. My partner and I hid the key and our adolescents were furious. There was no way for them to change the temperature control settings without knowing where the key was, however neither of us felt bad for their inability to change the temperature because the two of us did warn them. Now, there’s nothing for them to alter and the two of us won’t be dealing with that problem anymore. I’d call that a definite win!
