That heater is working well

The recent financial hit I took from the light bill has me pondering.  I have never really paid all that much attention to my family’s oil boilers and A/C habits.  And, maybe it’s time I did. I am definitely in a financial position to pay the power bill. But, just throwing currency away seems the height of counter productive.  I’m all for enjoying the comfort given by the heating and cooling system. There definitely won’t be a radical shift to covered in sweat in the summertime and freezing during the winter.  But still, there are definitely some poor central heater and A/C habits I can correct if I simply pay attention. I’m afraid I have been lulled into the sense that heating and cooling is the price all of us pay for comfort.  Perhaps I can effect that by being mindful to what I’m doing in the moment. I’d prefer to attempt to change rather than blindly throw currency out the window. First, I’m going to for sure change the air filter at the end of every month without fail.  The oil boiler and A/C can’t run efficiently if it can’t receive reasonable air flow. I’ve also gone through the entire beach house to be sure all the vents are opened and unblocked for optimum air flow. I also have made an appointment to have a smart thermostat installed.  My hope is the smart thermostat will stop all the dial yanking and allow the oil boiler and A/C to be managed more efficiently. Finally, I am going to call the local central heater and A/C supplier to do something I should have done long ago. The time has been long overdue for me to sign up for a boiler and A/C service plan.  The boiler, and A/C tech will come out twice a year to inspect and tune up our oil boiler and air conditioning method so it operates at max efficiency. I’m honestly looking forward to seeing what the results of our efforts will be.
