When my company partner told me that he had found the best location for our new diner I absolutely believed him. The guy has a real knack for design aesthetics and I knew that he would be scrupulous when he was looking for a piece of property to purchase. Therefore, I provided him full reign to handle the situation and kept my nose in my own company designing the menu! When I finally went out to inspect the company that he had chosen for us I was rather surprised to see that he had gone for an unfinished industrial space that was retrofitted into a potential study room. The most challenging section of the space was easily going to be incorporating the air ductwork into the design. I knew that all of us were going for a unique vibe… And I didn’t think that it included commercial HVAC; But here all of us were, standing in this large space with a big volume of indoor air that needed to be temperature controlled with a big HVAC system… And you could clearly see the inner workings of the air temperature control units all around us. There were large air ducts passing from one side of the space to the other. I had no system how all of us were going to come up with a design that did not clash with the indoor air handling equipment. However, I continued to have faith in my partner and figured he would come up with a solution to the heating, cooling, and air quality control issue. In the end, he managed to design all of the decor around the industrial heating and cooling equipment, but our guests really comment on the ductwork and tell us that it’s a nice touch. Who would have known, heating and cooling ductwork could look so cool.
