The Furnace Wouldn’t Cut Off

Last weekend, I thought something was wrong with my furnace. I couldn’t tell if it was all in my head or if there was actually a problem, so I tried to play it off. During the week, I’m away at work most of the day, so I thought that maybe I was overreacting to noises since I was actually home to hear them during the weekend. I waited a few hours and tried not to think about it too much. However, as I was eating dinner, I noticed that my furnace began running aggressively and the heat wouldn’t stop pouring through my air vents. It sounded like someone had set the furnace on high and it was continuously running. I ran over to the thermostat to try and get the heat to stop running so aggressively, but that didn’t work. I didn’t want my furnace to blow up and I especially didn’t want my energy consumption to rise, so I went to the breaker box and flipped the circuit. As soon as I did this, the furnace immediately stopped running. I was too scared to turn it back on, so I called an HVAC professional to come service my furnace. It was after regular hours, but they were willing to come for a fee. I needed heat, so there was no other option. Luckily, the HVAC professional who came was accustomed to working on things like this, so he was able to locate the problem right away. He made sure everything was running properly before he left, and I was thankful that it didn’t cause more damage.
