Living in a particularly dusty environment can seem like fighting a losing battle. I used to vacuum my carpets once a week and I can’t remember ever finding the inside completely full by the time I went to go put it away. At worst, the tank in the vacuum would be a quarter of the way full after leaving the house for a week at a time. The region I’m living in now is drastically different—I am forced to vacuum my entire house every three days, otherwise the vacuum gets full before I finish the chore. Even if I go around and use a duster on all of the surfaces I can reach, it seems like so much of it gets in the air and onto the floors despite my best efforts. I don’t have asthma, but the dust conditioners were starting to affect my respiratory health. I started buying more air conditioner filters at a time so I can replace mine once a month instead of every three months like the manufacturer recommends. But this just was not enough since my symptoms did not improve one bit. As a last ditch effort, I decided to buy an air purifier from the hardware store. The box says that it has a UV-C bulb inside, as well as a HEPA filter and a carbon filter for odors. I was worried I would have to change the filter regularly, but the HEPA inside lasts much longer than my air conditioner filters. I decided to buy a second air purifier so I could keep one in my bedroom and the other in my living room. If I’m lucky, I can get six months of constant use out of my air purifier filters. Buying these machines was a complete game changer in my life.
