If the furnace hadn’t quit working, she wouldn’t have needed the space heater
My mom has some quirky ways about her. One of the worst is that she is always reminding us that she is the mom and we owe her bringing us into this world. She says she gave us a good education, and taught us how to be good people, and she deserves more than just our love. What she thinks she deserves is our time and expertise, regardless of the time of day. I am an HVAC technician, and my mom will call me all times of day or night because she thinks there is something wrong with the heating or the air conditioning. Last week, she called me at 3 AM to come to the house and turn the space heater on. She had a brand new furnace, and I couldn’t understand why she needed the space heater. She told me that Fluffy, her dog, was shivering, and she wanted to give him a warm place to sleep. He always slept by her bed, but the floor was too cold for Fluffy. I told her I was an HVAC technician, and I didn’t make house calls to plug electrical cords in. I was going to hang up when she screamed that I owed her. I got in the car, plugged in the space heater and headed toward the door. She yelled that I hadn’t checked the furnace. If the furnace hadn’t quit working, she wouldn’t have needed the space heater. When she plugged in the space heater, the breaker switch flipped and turned the furnace off. I had to get my brother to the house to get everything off the breaker switch that should have been dedicated for the furnace.
