I have seen some genuinely sketchy things in the corporation world over our life, but there was nothing that had me as disgusted as the last HVAC heating and cooling company that I worked for, but after finishing up our training to become a certified HVAC repairman, I was desperate to find a job.
When I was gave our first full time job from a small HVAC corporation in the south I accepted right away and started working the following week… Over time however, I began to see the corporation practices that the upper management were teaching to the store managers, who were teaching the boys at the bottom love me.
During training they would tell us to install older and less reliable cooling system units when we were out on calls, because the more often that the cooling system equipment breaks down or needs a repair, the more often we will be needed. Along with this sketchy tactic, they told us to supply as little detail as possible about the cooling system units themselves so they don’t want to as you any follow up questions; Even though I was a rookie in the HVAC industry, I understood just how bad this was and I wanted no section of it, and the actually next afternoon I turned in our resignation and began searching for another opportunity. That was years ago now, and I have gone on to have a solid career in the HVAC industry so far. As for the company I used to toil for, I heard that they were shut down not long after I quit, and various people who worked there were arrested, but i am cheerful that I got out while I could, because that is not a path in life that I even want to think about!
