It’s days like this when I wish I lived in the south.

When I was young I lived in the south but my family moved north when I was still in high school.

I enjoyed living up north.

I learned how to ski and ice skate, and I didn’t need to go to the mountains or a skating rink to do either. Every winter, we enjoyed the winter sports, even though the temperatures were dipping into the teens or lower. As I got older, I wasn’t enjoying the cold as much as I once did. My parents had moved back down south because they couldn’t handle the cold any longer. A couple of days ago, the temperatures were in the twenties, and my furnace wasn’t working well. I had to find a way to keep warm that didn’t involve the furnace, until the HVAC technician could get to the house. My best friend and I talked for quite awhile, while waiting for the HVAC company to come to the house. He asked me when my parents were heading south and I was quick to complain they had already left. They left on Friday morning and expected to arrive by Sunday. They wanted to beat the snowstorm. I was wishing I had gone with them, but I had a responsibility to the company I worked for. A week later, I was offered a position with my company, to work in the south. I jumped at the opportunity, knowing the only thing I would need to worry about, was the air conditioning unit. My best friend was very disappointed I was leaving him behind until I invited him to go along. We had been living together for the last year, and I saw no reason to leave him behind.
