When I was a kid, I was actually interested in the work the garbage collectors did.

I know it sounds ridiculous to most people, and sounds a bit nasty to work with garbage, but to me it seemed kind of fun.

I was thinking that this was a job that had to be done, and I learned the money wasn’t too bad for being a garbage collector either. I appreciated the work these guys did and I insisted to my mother that I go out there when they were getting the trash and give them cold drinks and treats. Everytime they would come around, they thanked me for giving them the cold drinks. On the really hot days, I told them I wished I could bring them some air conditioning so they could cool down. They said they were used to the heat and they actually did have climate control in their truck as well. When I asked them if I could see how the truck worked, they let me hit the button to compact the trash and everything, it was really cool. While I did admit to myself that I would get really overheated doing a job like that, they did say they had air conditioning in the truck, so they probably were able to take breaks with the A/C. I ended up learning all about sanitation and the work involved. I ended up working in sanitation myself and I really love my job. Some people just can’t understand it and think I should be working in an office with excellent temperature control, but I’m more of an active hands on type of guy.
