My job is usually not exciting.
HVAC work is pretty routine but I still like it.
It is a lot of problem solving. However, after you have fixed a few hundred HVAC systems, not much surprises you anymore. Sometimes the customers can be a bit of a challenge but they are always happy once their HVAC issues are fixed. But last month I took an interesting job. It was a basic job, to start with. New home owners wanted to have central heating and air installed into an 80 year old home. The house only had a fireplace and a window A/C and was ready for a 21st century upgrade. There were a few roadblocks to work around, but nothing too strange. It was when I cut into a wall to install some ductwork that I found something interesting. Stuffed into the wall was a really old Bible. It had been in the wall since the house was built, based on the looks of it. There was a name written in the Bible. When I showed it to the home owners, the lady of the house nearly fainted. It turned out that the name it the Bible was a great great grandmother of hers. How the Bible ended up in the wall is anyone’s guess. How it ended up in the wall of the very home that this couple just purchased is even stranger. I also don’t know why I was the one to find it. I don’t know these people but now I kind of feel like I do.
