I don't know why I ever wanted to live in the cold

I’m grateful and happy that I was born and raised not at all far from where I live and work today. My lake house with zone controlled Heating and Air Conditioning is not but only twenty minutes or so from the old house I lived in. When I say old house, I’m talking about my family home. My ancestors made that very spot their home for various generations. I was sure that this would not be the case for me. I wanted to see the world and live anywhere but here. Then, I moved to the north only to be shocked by the winter. Did you know that they heat with heating systems such as a gas furnace or a boiler up there? It’s just a completely weird world. There was no way I could exist in a region where the Winter was that severe or lasted that long. So it was a quick trip before I got wise and moved right back down here. I’ve never been more thankful to see a heat pump. That made me easily consider just how fortunate we are to even have the option of residential Heating and Air Conditioning. I’m in my early 50’s and I’ve never known a time or a place where I wasn’t living with the comfort of modern Heating and Air Conditioning technology. But go back just a generation and my Mom grew up without any sort of residential Heating or Air Conditioning at all. They had a small wood stove for the winter and that was it. But the Summer must have just been brutal. I’ve heard him tell stories of how her father would rise at 3am to get most of his work done on the farm before it was too hot. It really makes me thankful for what I have today.
