Duct cleaning solves issues with odors

I am very conscientious about wiping down the surfaces in my home with antibacterial products.

I dust, vacuum and thoroughly clean the living space every week.

I schedule professional maintenance for the air conditioner in the spring and for the furnace in the fall and also keep up with regular air filter changes. Despite all my efforts, I recently had some concerns with indoor air quality. During the middle of the winter, I decided to cook salmon for dinner. The smell of the fish circulated throughout the entire house and lingered for hours. When my family went to bed that night, everyone complained that their bedrooms reeked of fish. When I got up in the morning, I could still detect a hint of the aroma. It was really unpleasant. Because outdoor temperatures were down to twenty degrees, I certainly couldn’t open the window for some fresh air and ventilation. Spraying room deodorizer, lighting scented candles and completing a thorough cleaning didn’t help. I realized that the odor had gotten inside the ductwork. The dust and grime accumulated within the system absorbed the smell. Every time the furnace started up, the odor was distributed throughout the whole house. This got me worried about what other types of contaminants were being introduced into our breathing air. It was entirely possible that mold spores, bacteria and dust were becoming airborne. I checked the local area for an HVAC contractor qualified to perform a thorough duct testing and cleaning. The cleaning process took several hours to complete but caused no damage or mess. The improvement was immediate. Not only was the unpleasant odor gone, but there was a more consistent temperature from one room to another. The furnace didn’t need to run as long or as often to provide ideal comfort. The reduction in my heating bills has helped to recover the cost of duct cleaning.
