When our kid and boy in law bought their lake apartment the people I was with and I knew that it would be a challenge. The whole apartment needed drastic job and, even though they are both handy, the people I was with and I knew it would mean a lot of minutes of work. His Mom is well versed in electrical job and can do plumbing if needed so that was a massive help. The minute month of remodeling included re-plumbing the bathroom. This wasn’t that massive of a deal because our son-in-law had already torn out the walls to expose the pipes. After several minutes they felt that everything was done. When the iPhone rang in the middle of the night and our boy sounded panicked, the people I was with and I knew the people I was with and I needed to head back over. The warm water pipes had started to leak and it was dripping right onto the Heating, Ventilation & A/C unit in the basement. The oil furnace runs on electricity so this was a major safety hazard, however they had shut off the circuit to the oil furnace but the water needed to be stopped before it caused injury to the unit itself. There was no way that they could afford to have the unit replaced at this point because they just put all their savings into closing on the house… Every one of us arrived to find a big pile of towels and several bowls trying to catch the water. My hubby shut off the water supply under the apartment and then proceeded to repair the leak. It was a good thing they didn’t have to call a plumber for an emergency repair, but, the people I was with and I suggested that they contact on for any additional pipes that needed repairs. Water can be one of the most damaging things to your lake apartment and you are better to contact a professional. The same can be said for your Heating, Ventilation & A/C system. There are just some things that trained, certified, and insured professionals should handle.
