Are fans considered HVAC units?

I am not an HVAC professional, however last evening, I was arguing with a associate about HVAC units! Specifically, the two of us were trying to decide if a fan was an HVAC unit.

I know that this question may seem silly, however truthfully, by the definition of HVAC units, I would absolutely think that a fan should be considered an HVAC unit. HVAC units are considered anything that provides heating, ventilation, plus cooling, plus I guess that a fan should absolutely be considered an HVAC unit. However, my associate staunchly disagreed that a fan was an HVAC unit. However, I think that a fan could entirely meet all of the categories of an HVAC unit. If you have a furnace that doesn’t work truly well, then you could buy a fan. Some heating systems have a difficult time distributing the heat, plus a fan can help to distribute the heat in your house. The same thing goes with a central cooling system. However, a fan doesn’t need to work in conjunction with a central cooling system in order to cool you, and everyone without an cooling system knows that a fan can cool you off, plus the two of us have been using fans for cooling for thoUSnds of years before the two of us had cooling systems! Fans are also an important area of ventilation. Fans can provide a fantastic source of fresh air, plus many people use fans in a window to get fresh air! Because of all these points, I recognize that a fan is an HVAC unit. Sure, it might not be on the same level as a furnace or a central cooling system, however it should still be considered an HVAC component in some capacity.
