I was constantly worrying about my air conditioning unit breaking down during the summer.
I couldn’t imagine going even a day without air conditioning when the temperatures in our area were in the upper 80s and low 90s.
Then the unthinkable happened, and I went without air conditioning for almost a week. I realized that having a broken air conditioning unit meant a lot more than just the lack of comfort for myself. The heat and humidity was causing mold and mildew to grow on my walls and in my closets. I was worried about black mold and was unable to do much of anything about it at that point. Once the air conditioning unit was replaced, I called a mold remediation company. I needed to have someone help to remove all the mold from my windowsills from my walls, and even from my counters. The people checked to make sure I didn’t have any black mold in the house, and simply used some bleach to clean what was there. I now make sure to have my air conditioning unit inspected at least once a year. The air filters are cleaned regularly, and I’ve had an air purification system installed into the air conditioning unit. I want to make sure that mold and mildew spores are not present in my air. I knew that with their presence not only was I risking my home’s health, but I was risking my own health. It took a lack of comfort for me to realize that the air conditioning unit did more than just keep my home cool.
