These tips will keep your air conditioner functioning properly

Until your A/C stops working efficiently, you do not give it much thought.

But if your energy bills go up, without changing the thermostat, you will consider the A/C an issue.

While turned on, your air conditioner draws in air to cool and release hot air. If it can’t pull in enough air or flush out hot air, the system will overheat. An A/C that runs hot normally won’t last very long. How much room does your air conditioning system require? A minimum of one foot is recommended on all sides, including behind the unit. Keep your equipment free of debris while doing yard work because the yard scraps can obstruct your cooling system and cause overheating. Turn the A/C off and check the temperature a few inches from the coil, the metallic grate surrounding your unit. Take the temperature 10 feet away, and if it is the same, your system is functioning fine. But you may have a complication if the coil is hotter than the surrounding area. If you live in a mild climate, you may use a heat pump instead of an A/C. The outdoor equipment provides both heating and cooling. It needs open space at all times, especially when it snows. Do not allow snow to accumulate on the top and near the sides of the unit. Turn off your heat pump if it fills with too much snow, and use warm water to melt the excess snow and ice. Be sure to let the water drain for a few minutes before turning the unit back on.
