The HVAC System Was Broken So I Sent Everyone Home

There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with being the boss of a small company.

I’ve been building this business for several years now and I’m proud to say that I’ve recently purchased an office space for me and my employees.

Together, we work in the office every Monday through Thursday, and Fridays we work from home. Like any office setting, there can always be drama or something bothering someone, and last month it was the HVAC system. I overheard two of the girls talking about how hot it was inside. The windows weren’t able to open and the thermostat was inside my office, so they didn’t have any control over the temperature. When I heard them complaining, I went to turn the air conditioning down on the thermostat, but I realized that it was 76 degrees inside even though the thermostat was programmed to 72 degrees. This was odd, because I’d heard the air conditioner running ever since I arrived at the office! I immediately called an HVAC professional to come service the HVAC system because I knew something was wrong. Since we were in an office, the HVAC appointment was classified as commercial, which meant the servicing was more expensive and harder to book. The HVAC company only had two HVAC professionals who were trained to work on commercial properties, which meant it was going to take 3 days for them to service the HVAC system. I didn’t want everyone to be uncomfortable, so I let everyone go home and work from home.
