I run the show, but I don’t do the work myself

To be clear, I don’t have my certification, so I am not a technician. I am the field boss, the site managers, and one of the co-owners of the business, but I am not a tech. One of my many jobs is to vet, interview, and hire the new techs, as well as to provide spot superation at random job sites. They never know when I will show up, but they know I run a tight ship so everything has to be 100% when I surprise them. Once upon a time the plan was for me to do the training, take the courses, and get my HVAC certification, but life just got in the way. The funny thing is that I have become so much more valuable as an administrator then I ever could be as an HVAC tech. That doesn’t mean I disparage my employees in any way, shape or form, I’m just saying that HVAC repair can be taught in a class, and running your own business can’t ever be taught, it has to be learned through experience. I can easily find a handful of talented young HVAC techs in a few days, but no one else knows the ins and outs of this corporation like I do. So while my plan had always been to run an HVAC crew, I am running the whole show, and hiring others to run the crews. At this rate I will one day be able to retire comfortably, have never once fixed an air conditioner or furnace in my entire life.
