Upgrading old house to more energy efficient

I always swore to my husband that we would get a new house after I got a raise and we could finally afford the home of our dreams.

We had to deal with some nasty rental situations until the money arrived.

As soon as I got my promotion, my man and I finally got right down to looking for a perfect house. I really wanted to be in a cute community with a traditionally designed house that improved with renovations over time. My man, on the other hand, was most concerned with the indoor air quality. I know that he always wanted our family to breathe healthy indoor air so we could keep our lungs in working order. But, we also wanted to avoid the super inefficient HVAC systems we’d been forced to deal with in the past. All of our prior homes had low quality indoor air temperature control systems in the properties. The irresponsible landlord never cared if anything was going wrong with the heating, cooling, and air quality control devices. We never had professional HVAC technicians who cared about our energy costs, and landlords won’t update appliances to energy efficient standards if you ask politely. When we got our dream home, we made sure we never needed to make HVAC adjustments. Rather than going out and getting a traditional HVAC system with a forced air furnace, we got a home with a heat pump and heated floors. This heated floor HVAC system allows us to literally warm up the house with zero energy expenses and much higher quality indoor air. In the summer, we just use our heat pump to cool the house down the same way. It feels amazing to have efficient air temperature control, and to finally stop dreading the monthly energy bills.
