These recommendations will help your A/C function efficiently

Until your air conditioner stops working properly, you don’t give it much attention.

Or if your electric bill increases without any thermostat change you will give the A/C some thought.

While operating, your air conditioner draws in cool air and releases the hot air. If it can’t pull in enough air to flush out the hot air, the system can overheat. If an A/C always runs hot, it won’t last very long. Do you know how much room your A/C requires? A minimum of one foot is suggested on all sides including behind the unit. Keep your equipment free of debris while doing yard work because yard debris can obstruct your air conditioner and cause it to overheat. Turn the air conditioner off and check the temperature a few inches from the coil which is the metal grate surrounding your unit. Measure the temperature 10 feet away, and if it is the same then your system is functioning properly. However, you may have an issue if the coil is much warmer than the surrounding area. If you live in a milder climate, you may have a heat pump instead of an air conditioner. The equipment provides both heating and cooling. It needs an open area all times, especially when it snows. Be careful not to let snow accumulate on the top or near the sides of the unit. Turn off your heat pump if it fills with too much snow. Use warm water to melt snow and ice, but let the water drain for a few minutes before turning the heat pump back on.
