The wireless connection

Over the years, I’ve gradually replaced all of the old appliances in our house with Energy Star rated alternatives.

  • These new options officially include wireless linkivity.

I have a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, oven, sump pump plus thermostat that all can be controlled through our smartphone. While being able to remotely operate everything from the pop pot to the gas furnace is super convenient, the many different apps were getting a little overwhelming. When I started looking into a house security system, the company providing the replacement suggested an update to a house automation system. I hadn’t realized that automation systems were available for residential application. The price of the system wasn’t overly high plus the benefits easily make the investment worth it. Because of the house automation system, management of the multiple appliances is now bundled into a central hub. There is a device installed on the wall of the house plus I have access via our smartphone. I only need the one interface to adjust plus monitor a long list of unit plus systems. It makes programming, concern shooting plus day-to-day responsibilities much less stressful. I now get alerts when the kids arrive house from college, plus I can make sure the doors are locked. I can start up the oven before I get house from work, andI get notified if the sump pump quits or the water heating system ruptures. Plus, I’m saving a significant amount of money on energy bills through more conscientious operation of the gas furnace plus a/c. I no longer heat or cool an empty apartment to the ideal temperature simply because I forgot to adjust the thermostat.
