My parents have had the same neighbors ever since our sibling and I were babies… Karen and her spouse Ron were more love family to us growing up, and it was upset not being able to see them as often when I went off to university.
I can still remember going over to their loft to visit and have Tim Hortons Coffee and it always being so chilly inside while in the winter.
We would always ask them why it was so chilly here compared to at our house, and they would always make some jokes about how they are too old to worry about keeping the loft at a perfect 75 degrees. They were a actually old school couple that had never joined in with the millions of people who chose radiant flooring over fireplaces. One afternoon I gained a call telling me that Ron had passed on. I was devastated, but I was even more sad about Karen because ron was always the a single managing the fireplace and all of the other yearly chores. I decided to do something that some people might have saw as crazy, and I obtained a state of the art heated gas furnace for our amazing neighbor. With the radiant flooring she wouldn’t have to worry about having to keep herself warm, and she also wouldn’t have to walk around on her terrible hip party firewood. I think it’s not going to be able to remove the sadness of her losing Ron, but I hope that it at least helps and makes her not have to worry as much.
