My parents have had the same neighbors ever since my brother and I were babies.

Karen and her husband Ron were more like family to us growing up, and it was sad not being able to see them as often when I went off to college.

I can still remember going over to their house to visit and have tea and it always being so cold inside during the winter. We would always ask them why it was so cold here compared to at our house, and they would always make some jokes about how they are too old to worry about keeping the house at a perfect 75 degrees. They were a very old school couple that had never joined in with the millions of people who chose radiant flooring over fireplaces. One day I received a call telling me that Ron had passed on. I was devastated, but I was even more worried about Karen because ron was always the one managing the fireplace and all of the other daily chores. I decided to do something that some people might have saw as crazy, and I purchased a state of the art heated gas furnace for my amazing neighbor. With the radiant flooring she wouldn’t have to worry about having to keep herself warm, and she also wouldn’t have to walk around on her bad hip gathering firewood. I know it’s not going to be able to remove the sadness of her losing Ron, but I hope that it at least helps and makes her not have to worry as much.
