I can’t make myself do that

Everytime our heater system turns on it smells like burnt hair. My boyfriend and I live in the south, so the heater is not used very much. But, when we do turn it on, we suffer. The heater fires up and the whole house reeks of burnt hair. Since it is a central heater, no room is spared from the icky odor. It is obviously because there is dust, hair and debris deep inside of the system. Also, there is probably a ton of dust in the ductwork. My boyfriend and I have tried to fix this issue on our own. We have cleaned the inside of our HVAC and changed the filter. We have stuck a vacuum deep inside of the HVAC. We just can’t get that deep in the system. Also, the ductwork is way out of our range. We have no tools to reach deep in the HVAC ducts and we would both worry about damaging them. My boyfriend has tried getting our landlord to call a HVAC technician. The heater obviously needs to be serviced and the air ducts should be cleaned. The landlord is not willing to call unless we have a dire heater repair or the HVAC just won’t turn on. He won’t spend money just because it is dirty and stinky. So what really can we do? If you run a heater long enough dirty, it will overheat and breakdown. The landlord is basically guaranteeing his heater will have a shorter lifespan. By the time it breaks down, I am hoping my boyfriend and I will be living someplace else.
