I live in one of those areas of town that you just don’t want to get lost in if you are not from here, especially at night! What makes it even worse, is that I live in the deep South, and during the Spring and Summertime, the humidity and heat is absolutely reckless! Unfortunately, in the middle of one of the warmest Summer nights, I woke up in a cold sweat.
I thought I was sick, or coming down with the flu until I jumped up to check my thermostat.
I was floored! It was 85 degrees in my house! I flipped the switch off and on a few times in a failed attempt at turning my air conditioner back on. As if things couldn’t get any worse, some dude crawled through the window I had opened to try to get some air flowing inside to improve the air quality. He tried to intimidate me by asking where my money was, but then realized how hot it was in my house and said he couldn’t breathe and his asthma was starting to flare up. He then said he would leave me alone and loaned me $200 from the last house he robbed, telling me to get my HVAC fixed and handed me a card to contact the HVAC business down the street. I thanked him, and the next day, I called a completely different HVAC company and the HVAC technician gave me a quote that was a lot less than I expected, so I was able to save those $200!
