As a teacher, I attend training regularly to ensure that I have the most up to date teaching strategies and techniques available to me. I love going to these trainings because they allow me to be the most effective teacher for my students. It’s also nice to move away from being the teacher and becoming the student during these trainings. Sometimes, these trainings are in our school building, while other times, they happen outside of our building. One of the best trainings I went to was about teaching students how to write complex sentences. This was so useful, especially for my middle school students. I felt like a sponge soaking up knowledge. The only thing that was distracting me during this training was the temperature in the room. It was so cold! The air conditioning was on during the middle of winter. I could not believe it. I tried turning the thermostat down myself, even though I didn’t work in the building, but it seemed broken. It would not adjust at all. I even complained to the building manager, but he said that the air conditioning is stuck to a certain temperature and it has been difficult to adjust it. It has been this way for over two weeks. He apologized, but it didn’t help how uncomfortable I was. He tried using space heaters to combat the issue, but the room was way too big for this to have any substantial effect. It was so distracting that I found it difficult to actively participate in the training. Hopefully, the next training I attend will be in a more comfortable room.
