Ductless HVAC installation requests

I am an HVAC technician by trade, and I have been for several years.

I really enjoy my job and it’s fun seeing new people every day and helping them with their heating and cooling needs.

In this business, you’ll find that HVAC systems, much like clothes, hairstyles and music, will go through changes in what is “trendy”. Saving money, however, is always in. I don’t see air conditioners or furnaces with great SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings going out of vogue any time soon. I do tend to see a constant change of interest in ducted vs ductless air conditioning and heating. Right now, ductless is very popular. I have installed more boilers- heating systems that run hot liquid through pipes instead of hot air through ducts- and multi split air conditioning- which does not use ducts, but instead uses a compressor and indoor outlets- in the last few years than I have in the last 10 years of my time in this business combined. Ducted air conditioning was the obvious preference for so long that a number of HVAC providers and other home comfort businesses just took it for granted that this was simply the preferred method of heating and cooling. I’m really glad my HVAC company didn’t, though. We were ahead of the curve by being able to offer boilers and multi split air conditioners right at the beginning of the ductless HVAC wave. I’m sure the other HVAC companies wish that they would have at least kept some ductless options available for customers! I think people felt that it was safer and cheaper (in the long run) to avoid keeping up with ductwork cleaning and just spring for the ductless HVAC. I wonder if/when ducted HVAC will be the preferred choice again.
