Closing your air vents does not save money on your energy bill

You may find it difficult to manage climate control in your home and the cost on your energy bills.

Many homeowners try to save energy by closing their air vents.

If you want to send cooler air to specific rooms or reduce your utility cost, closing the air vents might seem like a good idea. However, you might want to think again. Initially, you might feel some difference in your home, but closing the vents could potentially be harmful. Your HVAC system will work harder than it should, or the air will find another way out, perhaps from a leaky air ducts. Therefore, closing vents will not help you conserve energy. Your system will work much harder to push that same amount of air out, which would increase your utility bills. Of course, each house and situation is different. If you want to manage the temperature in your home, it is better to use zoning and mini-split systems. A zoning unit is a great option if you have several floors or a big house. With a zoning system, you can set specific temperatures in different sections or areas of the house to help maintain house comfort. Additionally, you will not be heating or cooling parts of the house that are unoccupied, which will reduce your utility bills. Additional heating or cooling can come from mini-split systems if you have added an additional room or space and cannot extend your HVAC duct. Installation of a mini-split system is relatively straightforward as well. The only things needed are the interior component mounted on an exterior wall and an outdoor condenser.
