Cabin fever leads me to study HVAC systems

I have gone through several stages of cabin fever during this lockdown, and finally I got to one that was constructive.

First I embraced all the downtime, I embraced not being allowed to go outside as it gave me permission to sit around in my underwear playing video games and watching movies.

After a couple weeks of that I was tired of my games, and had watched every movie I ever wanted to watch. I started spending a lot of time on social media, doing nothing, and getting more anxious. Now I hit the stage where I want to use the time productively, so I am studying HVAC repair as much as possible. It may sound silly, but how is learning about HVAC systems any more silly than learning a new language, or a new skill? Granted, I never plan on being an HVAC repair tech, but the more I know about these things the more time, money, and effort I can save myself. It costs a bare min of $75 for an HVAC tech to drive over to my house and suss out the issue. That does not include the cost of fixing the issue, or buying any new HVAC components I may need, that’s the starting price. To me, that means the more I learn now, the less I will have to spend later on HVAC repairs and service. What really blows my mind is how incredibly deep and complex the science and mechanics of HVAC systems are, there is no way I’m smart enough to do this for a living!
