A crazy day at the HVAC company

I was just getting ready to go home from the HVAC company.

I had been a HVAC technician for a long time and as much as I loved the job, when it was time for my shift to end, all I wanted to do was to go home and kick back and put my feet up.

Last week, this was not going to happen. There had been quite a furor in our company over the last several months. We had a widely known HVAC company move into our area and they seemed to be taking over the business of all of the local HVAC companies. The owner of our company decided there wasn’t any way he was going to allow them to take over his company. Every HVAC tech was put on 24/7 call for emergency service. The other company not only offered 24/7 service, but they also offered service in 2 hours or the service was free. There was no way we were going to be able to do that kind of guarantee, but we guaranteed the same excellent service that we always did and we stood by our service. Our boss wanted us to be just like the new company, but I knew this wasn’t going to work. As the oldest technician in the HVAC company, I tried talking to the boss, but he was adamant about the new policies. I tried talking to him about other alternatives to keep our clients, since many of our clients had been with us for years. He is insisting on the gimmicks and I am afraid this is going to cause more problems for our customers.
